I had the honor to speak at the Circulus Group Spring Summit in New York on June 16.

Thank you to Joseph Reilly for the invitation to share a perspective on family office investment decision-making.

My session explored a question that comes up often in family enterprises and family offices: What happens when the same investment is viewed through very different lenses?

For one person, the issue may be risk. For another, liquidity. For another, control, legacy, stewardship, trust, or the voice of the rising generation.

Investment analysis is essential. But many investment decisions involve more than investment considerations. They may also involve family priorities, differing definitions of risk, concerns about control, or questions of legacy and stewardship. A stronger decision process can help families surface those factors and make choices they can support over time.
