Family office investment decisions often look technical on the surface. But for the family, they may also carry meaning about legacy, control, loyalty, stewardship, fairness, authority, or rising-generation voice.
That's why approval doesn't guarantee ownership.
A family can approve a recommendation without fully understanding the tradeoffs it has accepted or what would justify taking another look later. If markets decline, assumptions change, or discomfort rises, a previously approved decision may ultimately be viewed as someone else’s mistake.
I was glad to discuss these themes with Joseph Reilly in this new Family Wealth Report interview, which grew out of my recent Circulus Group Family Office Summit session on high-stakes investment decisions.
Thank you, Joe, for the thoughtful conversation.
